The Next Small Step
The reading of my new play went well. We only had six people in the audience. I blame the inclement weather and something else...oh yeah, that Readings Suck!
No, no, no, Jaded Dan, they don't suck, they're just hard to derive anything useful from unless you're a theatre-weenie. It was useful for me to hear the thing, start to finish. Only twice did I get that feeling that my head was going to catch fire, my sure sign that a scene isn't working.
Thanks to terrific actors Jason Pugatch, Steve Bradbury, Evan Lai, Alisha McKinney, Colleen DeSalvo and (most importantly) Kaipo Schwab and Hope Innelli for picking up the ball where I dropped it.

hold their Manhoods cheape
At memorial services, I heard stories of my grandfather, and my relatives told them as if they had told them a thousand times prior, and yet somehow I missed out on all the telling. I knew that a kamikaze plane hit grandpa's ship during the pacific campaign, but there was much more.
Grandpa was a signal man, stationed above the bridge of the ship. The plane hit below him, killing the entire bridge crew. Grandpa took command until the other officers could get above deck, which wasn't for some time. While working damage control, he came across a sailor who had lost half of his face in the attack. The sailor was about to shoot himself with his pistol. Grandpa stopped him.
He received the Bronze Star for his actions on that day.
In a related story, I rented a portable DVD player for the flight home.

Passing On
In Portland, attending my grandfather's memorial service, so I can't say much.
Here's Abe Goldfarb's response to my comments on his philosophy that the director must be king.
