The Dog

A short play, in fractured time, about a man and a dog
for two men and one woman
Ten minute play -- Minimal Set

Dyson chooses war over home, but his dog waits to remind him of the man he was. 

 

Plot Summary

Dyson goes to war, abandoning a puppy, a wife, and a home.  When he returns, everything is gone but the dog, but there was a point in between where he might undo his mistake.  Based on an episode in Homer's Odyssey.

SMOKEY, female, a dog, old and young.

OLD DYSON, male, 40s or up, a veteran of a foreign war.

YOUNG DYSON, male, 20s, a young soldier eager to prove himself.

Production History

The Dog was produced as a part of Lost and Found at the Arthur Seelan theatre in New York City, with the following cast:
